Reflective Narrative
This course helped accomplish the Language and Communication goals of MLO 1. During this course we closely examined the structure of the Japanese language focusing on not just the hows but the whys as well. We developed our ability not only to understand these differences but to be able explain them in the target language. this can be supported by our worksheets such as our Kiego checklists. Furthermore, we learned the International Phonetic Alphabet for Japanese and English with a primary focus on the Japanese Phonetics. This is an important skill if I decide I want to continue my linguistic studies after my bachelors degree. We also focused much of our time on the pronunciation and intonation particularly in the context of the Japanese pitch accent, which has always been a point of struggle for me but this course has given me a better understanding for the reasonings and patterns of pitch accent to help support me in bettering my ability to reliably pronounce them in the future. |
