welcome!Personal Statement
I was sitting in class as a high school sophomore watching a news program about the rising demand for translators when it dawned on me, "that could be me." I've always had a passion for other cultures and languages and this was a way to turn that passion into a career.
After much debating about which language I should study I am now currently pursuing a B.A. in Japanese Language and Culture at California State University Monterey. The U.S and Japan share a long and complicated history that has led to a even more tightly wound relationship both politically and economically, yet the population of bilingual English and Japanese speakers are lacking in comparison to the demand, creating a huge communication barrier that needs to be overcome. Throughout my studies both at both CSUMB and while studying abroad in Japan I have expanded my knowledge of Japanese culture and language tremendously and in the future I hope to bring that knowledge with me to be apart of the process of helping try and cross those existing communication barriers in an increasingly interconnected global society. |
